Eleonora: She brought us a present, a book about Rio de Janeiro. On the cover there were two whales squirting water. They were in the Baia de Guanabara, behind them was the Pão de Açucar.
Alexandra: How lovely.
Eleonora: This was in ’48 when I turned eight. I told Alex that four years later, we moved here, and I wanted to see the whales.
Alexandra: Two weeks ago there was a whale in the Baía de Guanabara.
Eleonora: Was there? Yes, a lot of fresh water came in, hope is the last to die, right? But I know I never saw one. But in the building where we used to live, the first building that we lived in, we lived in the front, and the water was so clear and clean it was possible to see those enormous fish swimming at the bottom, gigantic rays, and so forth. If only we . . .
Alexandra: Something is going on, we saw dolphins jumping recently . . .
Eleonora: I also saw them.
